I turn my computer off regularly (or I do now.. once had a processor that hated that and would get all wonky on me whenever I shut down, not wanting to start up again and I actually ended up running that thing solid for 3 years without ever shutting it off - would reboot randomly, but never a cold start - There are pros and cons both in shutting down as well as in running all the time with preferences actually being more dependent on who you are talking to - I have seen debates on this get almost as heated as any debate here could ever get. You'd be surprised at what a topic of conversation this is - I actually prefer to leave mine running. At this point I only shut mine off because of my electric bill, but never stress it when I forget.. old habits and all. Many times mine is still on for days at a time. Of course.. I will also point out that I built my system and am perfectly aware of what it can handle or not. If you don't know.. don't listen to me, just do as you always do. Anyway..) shutting your computer off should not log you out of here or anywhere else (unless you have your browser somehow set to delete cookies automatically when it closes or whatever site it is times out on it's own). I haven't logged back in here, either at home or at work, since initially logging in (work computer is turned off every night)

My computer guy said it was harder on the system to keep powering on and off. True? I don't know, but I almost never shut the computer off. Only when there's a thunderstorm or something.

Nope my comp has not been turned off in about 4 years, unless we had a storm coming. The hubs made it to where the fan is bigger then most normal ones, therefore I don't have to worry about the comp over heating by staying on. If I'm not on it for an hour or so it goes into shut down mode, but it still stays on. The only comps that need to be turned off regularly are the ones that are very compact and don't have adequate ventilation or big enough fans, or laptops. Or at least that is what the computer guy that lays in bed with me every night says. LMAO

We used to leave ours on all the time, but Mister got nerdier and nerdier as the years went by and he decided it was not good to leave it running.

I have two very close computer guy friends (one with an MBA) who disagree about computer shut-offs. One says it's o.k. to leave it on, the non-MBA says to shut it off every night. I shut it off except for 1 night, when my virus check cleans up.

What are all these pop-ups and ads you all are talking about? I haven't had one yet. ??
