Re: Mia's Baby
Oldie - Reality and soaps don't mix, maybe especially on Days? The writers just want to hurry and move on to the next scene, details be damned. It would be a lot more interesting to have some of those details put in, though. (Of course, the placenta could have come out, and the cord kept until it could be cut, but I know the writers will never follow through with that. Hmm, since Nicole has become a wack job, maybe she ate the placenta, like a dog does.)

As for all this concern about Mia and the baby, they were not that far away from the clinic. An ambulance could have been there way before Mia delivered. There was no reason in the world for Nicole to deliver that baby. As a little after thought, I would like to know what happened to the placenta and how she tied the cord, and while I'm at it, I'd also like to know how that baby got so clean. And now finally, my last thought, she just walked out the door with a baby wrapped in nothing but a towel, no clothes on, nothing on it's head, and it's suppose to be winter. And is there a car seat in Nicole's car, doubt it. I know this is a soap but jeez could we have just a little resemblance of reality.

Thanks for saving me the typing. Mia's a kid who just went through a rough experience. Nicole should have alerted someone.
And I still think the drawer thing was strange.

Nic had to talk to Mia, so she placed the baby in a safe spot. Should she have dumped her on the floor? People in the past and even some poor people nowadays use a drawer as a crib for newborns. As long as they don't shut it, it's o.k.

This is how I viewed the scenes as well. A lot of people have been upset by the lack of realism being portrayed, but to be honest I don't think too many, if any, soap focuses on the realism of delivering a baby. I don't recall ever seeing any reference to a placenta on a soap. As for the baby being clean, didn't Nicole come out of the bathroom with the baby wrapped in a towel? That gave me the impression she had cleaned up the baby in the bathroom, but I could be wrong.
But I do agree, SOMEONE, whether it be Dr. Baker or Nicole should have called an ambulance.

That's exactly what I was saying, sure she told Nicole she was fine, but she's only 16 years old and just went through a traumatic birthing experience. Nicole should have called for help before just leaving her alone unattended. Even Nicole made the comment that Mia was just a child, so why why why leave her like that?

Re: Mia's Baby
Re the affection and the baby switch: I was thinking Nicole will try and pass Mia and Sami's babies off as HER twins. Tell Sami her baby's dead, keep Mia's and tell EJ and everyone else that she had fraternal twin girls.
Just a thought, but one that hasn't been discussed

I couldn't agree more the entire episode was just too stupid for words. I know it's a soap but it made no sense at all leaving a girl all by herself and walking out the door into the cold with a baby in a blanket. Nicole just gets more pathetic by the day.

Re: Mia's Baby
I guess I should have read this post first before posting mine. I hope that Days will surprise us and have the baby switch nixed (since everyone is expecting it). One Life to Live just did a baby switch about a month ago.

ITA SamIAm. Realism is NOT the way with children in soaps. The don't seem to need to go to school, only the prom, they grow up in three years, they don't seem to need to be looked after, they are born in prisons, field, turrets and caves with no medical help...Didn't Kim and Kayla both give birth in prison, with only their husbands there, no guards??? In fact, the only time newborns seem to need help is if by some fluke they are born in the hospital.
No. birth and childhood are definitely a WTF was that? in soaps.

I will agree with your opinion Wrangler. Although I do think Ari did a good job as a actress. But like someone said.....can't wait for the drunk Nicole to return.
