Thanks, you're right! He just found out today that he would be playing in it, first round tomorrow, then it goes through Sunday afternoon. Long weekend, but it will be fun. I'll take lots of "party" pictures and will share once the weekend is over.

I wanted her to know that I am loving the 100 push up challenge. It is great!

We were talking about low carb diets last week so I thought some of you might like to read some info. A recent study found that people who followed a low-carb diet lost more weight than people who ate a low-fat diet.
What's more, they enjoyed lower cholesterol levels to boot.
"Low carbohydrates shouldn't mean no carbohydrates," she said. "While a low carbohydrate plan can help with weight loss, a lot depends on the types of carbohydrates and the quality of other foods included."

The study, conducted by researchers from the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, found that both low-carb and Mediterranean diets were as effective as low-fat diets. Appearing in the New England Journal of Medicine, the two-year Israeli study is one of the largest and longest of its kind to compare the effectiveness and safety of common weight-loss approaches.

The study followed 322 moderately obese subjects. Participants ate a low-fat, Mediterranean or low-carbohydrate diet. Those following a low-carb approach recorded the greatest weight loss -- averaging 10.3 pounds. Those assigned to the Mediterranean plan came in a close second losing an average of 10 pounds. The low-fat group dropped the least amount with 6.6 pounds. Encouragingly, almost 85 percent of participants actually stuck to their diets.

In addition, the low-carb approach seemed to have the best overall impact on cholesterol, while the Mediterranean approach seemed to be the most effective for controlling blood sugar.

While the results were eye-opening, there are some things to keep in mind, Ofstein said. Carbohydrate foods such as whole grains and fruits are fiber-rich and have a low glycemic impact. Including them daily can help you lose or maintain weight as opposed to eating refined carbohydrates and foods that contain low nutrient density. And of course, exercise is important to any healthy lifestyle.

"As we know with a majority of weight-loss plans, if you follow them and include activity, you can lose weight," she said. "Weight-loss plans can be individual, and what works for one person may not be the best fit for another."

Choosing an approach that works means finding a food strategy that satisfies you and that you can stick to in the long term -- which is the first step toward a lifestyle change that will help you lose weight and live healthier. A trained and accredited nutrition professional can help you match your own preferences with the right diet.

Thanks Ruthie, even if he doesn't do well, we will enjoy the parties LOL! Haven't seen six yet, may she's disguised herself with another name?? She can't hide for long tho, we'll find her LOL! How close are you to your goal weight loss now? Sounds like you are doing great, and like me, have done your home work on the "healthy" carb life style. Although, I'm cutting most all carbs out now so I can have my lemon drop martini's this weekend! I've learned to "tweek" it so I can enjoy my cocktails on occassion LOL!

That's the type of low-carb lifestyle I have adopted over the past few years. I eat a lot of green beans, cauliflower, broccoli, green and red peppers, celery, salad, nuts, and other healthy carbs. When I want to shed a few pounds I lower my carb intake for a week and they come off easily now. Sugar and white flour are deadly to my figure, I can't eat too much of it at all or I'm done for LOL! I think it really depends on your body makeup, what works for one may not work for others. I tried everything after gaining nearly 60 lbs with the last one, and low carb was the only thing that worked on the belly fat. I've just modified it to fit my body and life style and found a way of eating that works for me. I am at my goal weight and just want to maintain and stay healthy now. I love this thread, it helps me stay on track, knowing there are others out there who want to get and stay healthy too!

This thread is great and I am grateful to Hops for starting it. I am getting closer to my goal, and I have two more weeks to go. I am at the stage where I can start introducing some carbs back in to my diet and I bought a loaf of weight watcher's multigrain bread. I am just so afraid to eat any of it. I did have half a banana this morning because I miss them so much. I had a hard time not eating any fruit these last two weeks. No white sugar or white flour for me. I am doing well with vegetables (no carrots or peas yet) I am eating a lot of asparagus as well. I now have to kick it up a notch on the exercising!

Good to know you're doing well, Ruthie. I'll be back to exercising next week. I'll really need to work at it after the birthday party on Sunday.

Hi, everyone. I'm probably going to take a break from the weigh in this week. I got really dizzy and fainted on Tuesday night, then I was lightheaded on and off all of yesterday. I'm thinking it's probably the anemia, but am going to take it easy until I know for sure.

Once I get back on track, I'll be on day 3 week two of the push up challenge.

one hundred push ups
Link just in case any of the new folks want to join me and Ruthie.

How low is your hemoglobin six? What about your ferritin? You should really get your BP and your blood sugar checked too. I am anemic too, it's awful hard to get moving some days.

Regardless, it is SO GOOD to have you here.
